We arrived at Black River Falls on Sunday evening, and after quickly checking out the adorable “Tiny on the River” home that we’re staying in, we jumped on a call with Chris and Mary, our new landlords in Bernal Heights! They walked us through the house and showed us each piece of furniture so we could decide which to keep when we move in (very excited that it comes partially furnished!).
Dan and Elizabeth had very kindly given us a ready-to-go tofu dinner so we heated that up, cheersed some vino to arriving at our next spot, and got this blog up and running so we can be sure to get near real-time updates for the duration of the trip – it’s already going by so quickly!
This morning, we left on a walk to explore the area and on our way, met an 84 year old woman named Nora walking her dog, Raleanne (a 6 yr old black dog from Texas that looked like a lab/pitbull mix and was very fit!). We walked together for at least 30 mins and let the dogs off to run around a big field together, which made Riley very pleased 🙂 Her husband was in the military and apparently controlled missiles?? They were in Germany for a long time. She shared that she has a daughter living in Maui now but she prefers it here in Wisconsin (seasons!) and her plan for the day was to mow her large lawn. It was clear from talking with her how much concern the locals have about flooding here – different than CA, but a good
