On Friday, we packed up our things (again) and waved bis später to Tiny on the River and our wonderful hosts who taught us about bauhaus architecture and inspired us to live greener with their huge solar panels. We then started our shortest drive of the journey so far (under an hour – Riley was thrilled!) to the city of La Crosse, WI, which is right on the Mississippi River. Yes, all cars must have a lacrosse stick to enter! We were just here for the weekend, rounding out 12 days in Wisconsin (and more cheese than we should think too carefully about).

Our first stop in town was the Grounded Patio Cafe which looked like it had the right combo of wifi and dog-friendliness to meet our Friday work + dog parent needs, and did it ever! By Saturday afternoon we’d already been three times. Great coffee, breakfast and lunch sandwiches, pastries, and even a selection of beers on tap which hit the spot after our 4 mile hike on Saturday at the nearby Bicentennial trail. Note to self that I really like the Pompeii from Toppling Goliath (mango & pineapple, mmm 😋). Other food spots to note include Red Pines Bar and Grill, which we went to on Friday night and saw a beautiful sunset before the mosquitoes came out.

We stayed at a nice spot with plenty of space for Riley to run around (indoors and a fenced yard!) (more to come)
